Mme El is a personality of an unswerving, warm-hearted nature with a cheerful and mischievous glint in her eye. She embraced life with its ups and down, accepting it "es atal la vido" (such is life) without bitterness.
Unsentimental but with warmth and compassion for the fellow creatures, she produced delicacies (pate) from her last sow Linotte. Then there were all the other animals in her life such as her dear dog Toutoune who mirrored her feelings towards others, in her poultry yard a young handsome cock with luxuriant brightly coloured feather tails, and a most pretty black and white cat. Thanks to the author, Dagmar Coward Kuschke, the almost daily confidences of an Ariege peasant woman about the different aspects of her life, those of the animals, birds and plants that made up her universe, lead on, in its own way, towards a search for love, "the fin'amor", the Quest of love, through literature, poetry and music.
